THE PRESENT…
The National Inner-City Task Force was re-birthed through several conversations between Daniel Buggs and Dan Britton. For some time, the National Inner-City ministry was lying dormant. Daniel presented his vision from God to Dan Britton for the Atlanta Inner-City, which could be used as a blueprint and easily replicated in inner-cities across the nation. The Atlanta Inner-City ministry has grown by leaps and bounds in the last 4 years. It was also in Daniel’s heart to come along side other inner-city ministries to help them plan strategically for serving the inner-city, create enhanced ways of sustainability, implement unique measures and methods of serving, and for connecting staff across the nation.
Dan Britton then called together inner-city servant staff from across the country to Kansas City in June 2009. During that time, the staff came together, prayed, and organized the initial Task Force committee. The committee saw a need for a leader and asked Daniel Buggs if he would take the reins. Daniel accepted the tremendous challenge after prayer and consulting with his leaders and mentors.
Currently, there are over 24 members on the Task Force which is comprised of staff from the inner-cities and the National Support Center.
THE BEGINNINGS…
For the Atlanta Inner-City, a blue print was drawn up entitled the “Expanding the Vision – The Nehemiah Project.” The Nehemiah Project began as Daniel saw a need in his hometown of Atlanta, captured a vision , laid a plan, and mobilized others to join him is his cause of serving the student athletes. Daniel’s story was a classic case study of building the walls of inner-city Atlanta. When Daniel began to weep and pray other the disgrace of Atlanta’s inner-city ruins, God furnished him with a vision to re-build the walls. Then as God provided favor, Daniel sought permission from the Atlanta Metro Director, Shane Williamson, to leave his post as the FCA Chaplain to West Virginia University to return home to Atlanta to re-build the walls of the inner-city. Just as Nehemiah sought to re-build the walls of Jerusalem, Daniel is now working to re-build the walls of inner-city Atlanta. Now, as Atlanta is well on its way, Daniel has a desire to see the same done in other cities across the country.
THE FUTURE…
The Inner-City Leadership Summit
The concept for the Inner-City Leadership Summit came from a desire to bring inner-city servants from across the nation and various organizations together to plan and strategize on re-building the walls of their cities and having a blueprint for serving. Also, the Summit was designed to become a “connector” between FCA Inner-City and other ministries who serve inner-city youth. The first Annual Inner-City Leadership Summit’s theme is “Going Back, Giving Back and Reaching Back.” The base scripture is Isaiah 58, specifically Isaiah 58:12, “And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of [buildings that have laid waste for] many generations; and you shall be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.” After the first three years, the Summit will grow and travel to another FCA Inner-City to be hosted by that city’s staff and to build on the previous year’s Summit.
The National Inner-City Ministry is turning the world upside down for Jesus,
without boundaries and without limits.
